It all started..
11 years ago, just in theory, researching therapy and emotional support dogs. We began to pray and dream with our children about breeding and raising perfect puppies for deserving families. In 2014 a priceless opportunity presented itself, and we jumped in with all four paws! The breeding world is not easy to get into, it's very exclusive- and rightfully so- It takes a very long time to produce your "trademark" dog, which we decided to do, producing unique puppies to Heritage Doodles that you won’t find anywhere else. We decided to go the multigenerational route. We were blessed to have a number of mentors, and continue to learn new things every year that will improve our genetic lines.
It can be intimidating when you're dealing with bloodlines, DNA testing, and on the other end, raising puppies to be healthy, with appropriately timed neuro-stimulation, socialization, training and nurturing. It's certainly not for the faint of heart; but truly -the families who need our dogs and choose us over the myriad of options available are the BIGGEST reason why we are in business! We have the best relationship with each of our Heritage puppy families - they really become extended family all over the country!
WHO WE ARE
We are a family of 6! Kirk is an engineer in the oil and gas industry, and I, Liz, homeschool our children. Our children are an integral part of what makes our puppies the most incredible family pets. They come so well socialized and pre-loved because of the special roles each child has in our daily operations with the puppies.
Where did my passion for this come from? I had grown up in a home that always had a dog. My dad was earnest in his love for his dogs - mostly rescues, and I am sure that this exposure was what shaped me. Dealing with unpredictable rescues that we had as children has grown my desire to produce an amazing family pet, with excellent temperament from choice bloodlines.
What a world of difference it makes with a dog who can be traced back to their great-grandparents, is DNA tested, and has been socialized properly, without any trauma in their puppyhood. It is wonderful when people can rescue a dog, and likewise, great to assist families in selecting a dog for their unique lifestyle and small children.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: My other passion earlier in life was my work with children in the education field who had sensory sensitivities, and ones who were on the autism spectrum. I am so thankful that years later, another opportunity to stay connected with these sweet kids and their deserving families has presented itself in the form of emotional support and therapy dogs. We are so proud to have a number of puppies of ours in therapy service, and being used as psychiatric service dogs. We are happy to give you more information and references for families needing to go this route.
HOLISTIC: We have centered our focus on raising our future moms and dads in the program, as well as their puppies, with holistic measures. Just like we want to give our kids the best nutrition to build their bodies, we are very passionate about canine health as well! This includes researching for the newest studies in puppy rearing, homeopathy remedies, feeding biologically appropriate food (raw) and supplementing for the highest level of nourishment. We love to educate our families on the option to do titer testing, instead of over-vaccinating their dogs which leads to all sorts of health complications. We have a wonderful vet- Dr Qi, with Calgary Holistic Clinic, who has educated us and has supported us with our endeavours.
